How to check
- FLHSMV Vehicle Information Check: enter the title number or VIN.[1] It shows the entity holding the registration and its phone number.[2][3]
- SunPass lookup: enter the plate number and the registered owner's last name to see whether SunPass placed a stop and how much is due. No result means another entity may have placed it.[6]
- At the counter: under RS-37, the clerk can identify the reporting agency from the four-digit location code on the record.[4]
Not every registration stop is a toll. SunPass notes that stops are also placed by other governmental or private entities.[6] Florida law also lets a clerk of court report outstanding toll violations.[7]

Name changes to know
The Greater Miami Expressway Agency was formerly the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX). Its roads moved to GMX in August 2023.[5] Older documents, including RS-37, still say MDX.[4] THEA accepts SunPass but is a separate government entity from SunPass.[10]
Once you know the authority
